Are Modern Designs For You? How to Buy and Maintain Great BeddingPosted by Home Design in Untagged |
|
Contemporary bedding designs by DwellStudio can be found at a
number of home stores in the District, including RCKNDY on U Street.
If the sunny hours of summer have inspired you to switch up your home decor and you’re looking to stay on the cutting edge of modern design check out this interview with founder and creative director of DwellStudio, Christiane Lemieux from the Washington Post.
Dwell Studio is known for its contemporary designs for bedding products such as sheets, bedspreads, pillows and laundry hampers. Dwell Studio products can be found locally at RCKNDY (1515 U St. NW, 202-332-5639), Tabletop (1608 20th St. NW, 202-387-7117) and online at PillowsandThrows.com.
Lemieux shared some insider knowledge about what to look to for when shopping for bedding. An important step in buying bedding is recognizing thread count and what that means, and Lemieux revealed her thoughts on the importance of this: “I think up to a point, thread count is fairly important. But when you get into 1,000 thread count, you aren't getting what you're paying for. The quality of the cotton is more important. And it's also what you like: Some people like flannel; others like silky sheets. Sheets are very personal.”

Christine Lemieux also shared some of her own design secrets including the fact that the current collection was inspired by a Yves Saint Laurent store storefront in Paris, other inspirations include art exhibits and current fashion trends.
She described the current DwellStudio line as being a “graphic, primitive collection.” If you're dipping your toes into the cold water of modernism Lemieux advised, “never mix more than three patterns or elements, or it gets crazy. Do a small, medium and large pattern so things don't get overpowering.”
Another great aspect of DwellStudio is that their children’s line is just as chic as their adult line, so you don’t have to resort to something that doesn’t match the design aesthetic of your home. This is important to consider because some lines only offer “teddy bears and beaded ladybugs.”
If you’re inspired to buy new bedding, and you want the best method to keeping it clean and looking new, Lemieux offered a few helpful hints: “If you've got a percale, wash it inside out so prints don't fade so much over time. And if you don't feel like ironing sheets, take them out of the dryer when they're still a little bit damp and put them on the bed. It's the lazy person's way of pressing them.”
