We've been so busy around here planning for our holiday guide (which, we're adding content to daily), that I haven't had time to dig around lately and find yummy recipes. Blame it on my sweet tooth getting the better of me, because today's recipe of the day is - drum roll, please - cookies!
Cookies make great holiday gifts or snacks for a holiday party.
It's tough to go wrong with a cookie, especially one that's warm from the oven and gooey soft. Scoop a hunk of ice cream on top, and you're in business! Here are a few of my favorite cookie recipes that are sure to please even if you choose to forego the extra calories in the ice cream (if you must).
Pinch My Salt just published a Classic Snickerdoodles recipe that she found while digging through her aunt's recipe box over Thanksgiving. She suggests placing the balls of dough into a big bowl with the cinnomon-sugar mixture, and then shaking it all around. It's a faster way to coat the dough.
I liked this new spin on a tried 'n' true classic - Banana Chip Cookies, which of course contain chocolate chips but also walnuts and banana chips. This recipe comes from 101 Cookbooks. If you're gonna freeze a batch for later, the author recommends a "pre-freeze." Place the dough balls on a baking sheet and put them into the freezer. Once firm, double bag the frozen dough and put it back into the freezer. This technique, she says, will keep you from ending up with a bag of frozen, mashed cookie dough.
This final recipe comes from a garden enthusiast-slash-baker who writes Robin's Nesting Place. This Yummy Ginger Cookies recipe (pictured above) calls for ground ginger and cloves, as well as a table spoon of orange juice. Not only do they taste yummy, they make the house smell yummy too, she says.
