Marble

Nothing will add a look of timeless elegance to your bathroom more than a marble countertop will. There are also several other uses for marble, including shower stalls, tub surrounds, walls, and floors. Keep in mind that marble must be properly sealed to avoid damage, particularly when being placed inside your shower.

Floors

Aside from marble, there are a number of other flooring options to consider. A few popular choices include:

• Exotic wood floors made from reclaimed chestnut or another rare species
• Granite, particularly the Blue Bahia variety, which is mined in Brazil and contains hues of brilliant blue
• Other types of natural stone such as slate and travertine

If you are particularly concerned with cold bathroom floors in the winter time, you may want to include radiant heat in your design. Radiant floor heat can be installed underneath nearly any type of floor, and keeps surfaces warm by emitting energy through a heat source. This type of heating can be used not only to keep your floors warm, but to ensure your entire bathroom is nice and toasty.

Bathtubs

Bathtubs these days are anything but dull and boring, as they come in a multitude of styles and colors. Freestanding bathtubs are one type that will provide an elegant, contemporary look for any bathroom. Freestanding bathtubs can be round, rectangular, or oval in shape, and found in shades of bright blue, red, slate gray, or yellow. They can also contain unique features such as reclining headrests and whirlpool jets to give you a spa-like experience. Claw foot tubs are also making a comeback, and now contain many of the same features as freestanding bathtubs.

As you can see, the sky is the limit when it comes to designing a bathroom. No longer are you restricted to the ordinary, as these ideas and more can easily be incorporated into your bathroom design to give this space an inviting, elegant look.
